The Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and headed the Cuban delegation that participated in the celebration of Cuba’s National Day at ExpoDubai 2020, held on 14 February. As part of the work agenda, he also participated in the Business Forum on Cuba, organised on 15 February, which aimed to promote the biotechnology and health sectors.
During the visit, meetings were held with various Emirati authorities. The current state of economic relations and cooperation between the two countries was reviewed, and the interest in expanding them was expressed.
As part of the agenda, Minister Malmierca Díaz met with Mrs. Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Mr. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy.
She also had a cordial meeting with Mr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade. They exchanged on the possibility of increasing relations in various sectors of common interest.
He also exchanged with Mr. Mohammed Said Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, on the interest of expanding collaboration with this institution, due to its direct relationship with fundamental programmes of high social impact.
As part of the visit, two Memoranda of Understanding were signed between the Ministries of Culture and Health of both countries.
The delegation was also composed of the Cuban Ambassador to the UAE, Roberto Blanco Domínguez, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona, the Director of Trade Policy with Africa and the Middle East of MINCEX, Sergio Espinosa Moré, and the Advisor to the Minister of MINCEX, Lizbet Díaz García.
