The Governing Council is the main decision-making body of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). It is composed of all IFAD Member States and meets annually.
The 45th session took place on 16 February and focused on the overarching theme “Harnessing innovation and financing for an inclusive and climate-resilient recovery”.
During the session, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, affirmed the country’s desire to continue strengthening working ties and exchanges of experiences with developing countries.
Minister Malmierca spoke as Governor for Cuba. He recalled that the country has three projects underway financed by this specialised agency of the United Nations: PRODECOR, for grain production; PRODEGAN for livestock development; and PRODECAFE, for coffee development.
He also reaffirmed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States of America for the last 60 years is the main obstacle to Cuba’s economic and social development.
The head of MINCEX ended his brief speech by thanking IFAD for its cooperation with our country, which he described as efficient and timely.
