The XVII Expocaribe 2022 International Fair was inaugurated today at the Heredia Cultural Complex, in Santiago de Cuba, with the purpose of stimulating unity, solidarity, alliances and business, with special emphasis among Caribbean nations.

Almost twenty countries from Africa, Asia and Europe are represented by businessmen or diplomats who participate in the event.

At the opening ceremony, exhibitors and guests received a welcome greeting from Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, governor of the province of Santiago de Cuba, a territory that had not organized an edition of ExpoCaribe since June 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the inauguration, words were expressed by Lou-Anne Burns Martínez, Ambassador of Belize in Cuba; Franklin Witter Robert, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Jamaica, and Rodrigo Malmierca, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.

This first day of Expocaribe 2022 became a very intense day, because according to the program in the same inaugural session there were two special interventions. One, by Mildrey Granadillo, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning, on the general situation of the Cuban economy; and the other by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josefina Vidal, regarding the historical links between the Caribbean Community (Caricom) and Cuba.

Expocaribe 2022 will run until Saturday 26, when the best exhibiting entities of goods and services will be awarded, and on that day there will be free entry for the population.
